about

KALYPAAKQUA

In the past centuries, science has been displacing religion in the task of explaining nature and our reality. One by one, phenomena that were once only explained by evoking magical powers or gods of any sort have been finding an answer by means of pure reason and logic. There are still many issues to be disentangled and we still have a long path in front of us. While lazy thinking still relies in the paranormal to find immediate “answers” to our questions about the world, scientists and philosophers keep searching day by day for an understanding of the functioning of nature. And one of the quests where we seem to be closer to the start point seems to be the understanding of consciousness. It may be the fact that the conscious act is a purely subjective experience and only exists in one’s mind. We can’t place it under a microscope or dissect it on a medical table. If Raymond Kurzweil’s prediction is right (and until now presumably almost all of them have been) around 2045 we will reach a singularity (a term first mentioned by John Von Neumann when he talked about the increase in acceleration of technological progress, suggesting that it must lead to a point in which the human race will face a radical change). According to Kurzweil, at that point we will have reverse-engineered the human brain and AI will be a reality (he also suggest that we may have reached immortality). Once that happens we may have the answer to this and many other subjects that remain occult to us.
